A Leisure Walk Across The Brooklyn Bridge

A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is a lifetime experience, which never fails to excite visitors from all over the world. There are many bridges in the United States, but do you know why the Brooklyn Bridge is the world-renowned attraction of New York City? Oh! It's so simple – due to its magnificence and construction that dates from the year 1883. Completed in the year 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge connects Manhattan's New York City boroughs and Brooklyn by spanning the East River. Well, this idea of taking a walk on the bridge actually rocks. So whenever you are in the city, do try this and make your holiday memorable.

This enduring and historic monument is one of the oldest suspension bridges in US. In fact, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world right from its opening until the year 1903, and was also the first steel-wire suspension bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge was originally referred as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge, which was later dubbed as Brooklyn Bridge. What so ever, after its opening, the bridge has become an iconic part of city's skyline that offers spectacular views of the city. The Brooklyn Bridge was also designated as a National Historic Landmark in the year 1964. The Neo-Gothic towers of the bridge are so fascinating that you cannot simply miss it and escape out of the site.

One thing which you need to consider carefully is the traffic pattern. So cross at the either end of the bridge and make it to the pedestrian walkway, a Broadway that you might have seen anywhere else. The planks, which pattern the path, will lead you over the river and will make your journey unforgettable. So do not forget to carry your camera along with you, as the views around are simply stunning. While experiencing the magnificence of the bridge, you should be aware of little facts that will make you even more familiar with this amazing attraction. You can walk on an elevated pedestrian path that offers you opportunity to cross the river without bothering about the traffic, which can be found rushing a level below.

Taking a great view of the towers of the bridge, one can also take beautiful glimpses of the downtown Manhattan’s skyline. The views itself draw attentions of millions of visitors, who throng from all over the country to here every year. The length of this bridge is 1,595-feet, 6-inches, and the width is 85 feet. Overall, the length of the Brooklyn Bridge has 5,989 feet. Opened on 24 May 1883, the bridge charges no tolls from people passing by. It carries bicycle, motor vehicles, elevated trains that were used until 1944, streetcars, and pedestrians. The bridge is maintained by the New York Department of Transportation and is still in good condition. This is what the experts did to make such a great bridge to connect two different areas over the river. We should salute them for giving an iconic attraction to the New York City.

You can access to this Bridge from the Brooklyn entrances of Tillary or Adams Streets, Sands or Pearl Streets, and Exit 28B of the eastbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Motor cars can enter the bridge from the either direction of the FDR Drive, Chambers/Centre Streets, Park Row, and Pearl/Frankfort Streets in Manhattan. Pedestrians can enter the bridge from the Tillary/Adams Streets or can take a staircase on Prospect St that lies between Cadman Plaza East and West. In Manhattan, you can get access to the pedestrian walkway from the end of Centre Street. In fact, you can also get access through the south staircase of Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall IRT subway station, which can be used free of charge.

During night, just see the bridge and you will be completely enthralled from its beautifully illuminating lights that line the bridge, making it even more stunning. No visit without Brooklyn Bridge is like a visit to the New York City. So do visit this attraction and get inspired from the panoramic views offered by the bridge.
